In terms of good or bad, SEO has changed a lot over the past few years. Back when it was still a relatively new thing, it was pretty straightforward. The rules were pretty obvious and more content and links trumped everything else. Who will rate better was like a boxing match where the fighters don’t actually fight, but the winner is the one who weighs more. It was a pretty dark time when people were using shady tactics, automation, and terrible content. Lucky for us, search engines stepped up their game and started identifying the culprits guilty of these crimes against good content. A new era of SEO began – the one of quality over quantity.
That happened a few years ago, but for some reason many people have still come aboard this ship. They still try to spin articles which in many ways means that they upload nonsensical or semi-sensical content on their websites. People do not enjoy it, and hence do not share it. There is hardly a way to get quality links from authoritative websites to it, so basically they are shooting themselves in the foot by doing this. Still, that’s somewhat good for the people who are doing it properly, because that means a weaker competition.
Good SEO is not that hard to achieve. All it requires these days is that you produce excellent content people can enjoy and share. Your content should be oriented towards SEO, focused on keywords and links, but should be directed toward the readers. Let them decide whether it’s good and whether it deserves to be shared. If it does, then your SEO will be good. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use keywords and on-page and off-page optimization, but it does mean that you should focus on quality a bit more.
